Do you need another Orkut or Mybloglog!

John asked a simple but timely question while talking about similar functionalities of Blogcatalog and Mybloglog (almost)!

“I’m really surprised nobody’s asking “Who came first…the chicken or the egg?”. Somebody’s imitating someone here.”

It has long been a common trend to follow a popular site to earn some extra bucks. After Orkut’s huge success, you can find many other sites with almost similar functionalities. I even got some promotional emails that boosted “Your office blocked Orkut! Move to ……”

Just think about the sites that offer online bookmarking solutions. Do you really need so many of them to manage your bookmarks! But, you know people – they need to move to each of them to “stay happening”.

Who are they?

I don’t know but I think I know them as you do. Perhaps everyone is a marketing executive trying to sell his product to another marketing executive, thinking of him to be a unassuming target.

You can even find some web application design companies who boost on making similar programs like Clickbank or Craigslist. Why! Are you adding some value to the web world!

One of my friend once said, “Web runs on two tools – copy and paste!” I accepted because this is happening everywhere.

There can be only one Orkut or Mybloglog – I have one of each and don’t need more of them.
