Take Away Content

The plan:

Turn our post into slide shows.

Why?

1. Language is nothing but a tool for communication. And it only serves 30% of any communication process. To add to this, people think in images and not in words. A slide show can allow us to present the content in a more pictorial manner – and my experience says that people will love it.

2. A 1500 word article contains at least 500 extra words like the, in, at, that etc. Whereas you can strike them off in a slide show and make a more compact presentation.

3. I prefer a slide show more than a video because, while asking a visitor to go through our video, we assume that he has a speaker attached to his computer. This might not be the real situation always. Apart from that videos often turn monotonous and expensive (Single frame, single angle, not much breathing space etc.). Whereas with a slideshow, you can become as creative as you want.

4. With a video it is not easy to go back and freeze certain frame so that you can keep pace with what it is asking me to do.

5. Bloggers can easily get the code and will be happy to put it in their post or sidebar. You can create your own signature to attach as the last slide, so that people may know the origination of that content.

6. Last but not the list, if a visitor is not interested in reading the whole article (1500 words), he may just click for a few frames (15 to 20) and get the gist.

7. If people talk you get natural links and it seems to be a talkable product.

How to do that:

Extract the gist of an article and make a slide show presentation (PPT).

Upload the presentation into a website like slideshare.com or slide.com. Put the code (generated for that slide show) into that article page.

  1. I think this is a great way to reach those who are more visual learners. Not to say that reading isn’t visual, but some people prefer a brief synopsis rather than a long form.

And some of us writers tend to be fluffy, so this is a great opportunity to condense down to the bare bones.

Thanks for the idea and the how to!

  4. Its an interesting thought. Almost in the area of a specialized widget or specialized RSS feed. Another way to communicate. But does this as well fall into the zone of audio versions of posts? Audio has its pluses and minuses. Audio reaches you by another mental channel, but on the other hand if your audio is boring, you fall into the trap of someone clicking away from your webpage with your audio in the background, which can as Will mean its attention priority fades quite away in the distance.

I suppose you could always do the flipside… Mention there is something in the slide show that IS NOT IN THE BLOG! :)

    Just a thought. :)

    All the best!

  5. “Mention there is something in the slide show that IS NOT IN THE BLOG!” – Thats a good idea Dexter :)
As far as audio is concerned, I am never very optimistic about it. When you use some audio files, you presume that, the viewer got a speaker attached with his or her computer. We may do some market research to find out how many users actually got speakers attached.
